HomeWebBanking insecurity is on the client side (25 Jan 2006 01:34) - This blog on Linuxfr.org mentions threat to web banking users using their computer to access the service. With the number of Windows machines infested of viruses out there (windows machines are now responsible for a substantial part of spam), the risk of being trapped by such key loggers is high. You have been warned.Internal memo of the Commission on swpat (18 Aug 2005 23:40) - This internal memo of the Commission is simply wonderful. Unfortunately, freepatents.org has been hijacked, and content has disappeared from the internet. Read page1.png, page2.png, page3.png. Elinks has bittorrent support (04 Aug 2005 21:11) - Compile elinks with "./configure --enable-bittorrent", it is a great feature (screenshot here). Redhat ships proprietary software (07 Jun 2005 23:32) - Nice quote from Mark Webbink: "At Red Hat, we do ship some proprietary applications because we think they'll be useful to our end users". Yet another reason to use Debian, sooner or later Redhat will disappear. European directives written by BSA/Microsoft ? (28 Jul 2004 13:56) - Mr Paul Meller (NY Times IT journalist) confessed to me that Mr Mingorance owns a Macintosh, with Microsoft Word running on it. If you do a "wget http://petition.eurolinux.org/pr/proposal.doc -O - | strings", you will see that this document has been edited with Microsoft Word 10, which runs only an a mac. Are European Directives written by American Megacorps? European Directives written by anonymous patent administrators? (26 Jun 2004 02:32) - During the demonstration in Den Haag in front of the Cabinet of the Minister of Economy, some guys have taken pictures of some patent administrators who are in charge of the software patent file. Their names and pictures were published on the internet, and some days after, the minister called the association to remove their name and pictures. Have you ever seen the price of Microsoft Windows? Fosdem presentations (01 Mar 2004 15:37) - Here are the presentations of Fosdem2004: lightning talks, sixmesh and jtaghacking. Festival du Conte (15 Feb 2004 13:33) - Voici les photos du Festival du Conte de Louvain-La-Neuve, du 9 au 12 fevrier. Nice people... The Windows viruses heresy (15 Feb 2004 13:29) - Sometimes you receive stupid mails in your mailbox of windows users warning you about one of this stupid windows virus. It's well known that Microsoft doesn't care about security, so much that their system is not multiuser, and a normal user has the right to do nearly everything. Do you want a demonstration that Microsoft is putting in danger your businness? Patent Inflation: EPO will never stop! (23 Jan 2004 23:59) - In a series of questions asked by Mrs Kauppi (Finland, Member of the European Parliament) regarding the question of unlimited patentability (the European Patent Office is an organisation NOT related to the European Union), the EPO has answered that they will not stop their behaviour of granting stupid patents. What is clear is that they want UNLIMITED PATENTABILITY. Please stop the PATENT INFLATION, and sign the Call For Action2 of FFII.org. In which future do you want to live in? (02 Nov 2003 23:50) - I was browsing Infoanarchy.org (great news website), you should visit it too. Second hacking party at Mind.be, Leuven (02 Nov 2003 23:50) - Again with the same friends we met this weekend in Leuven to continue the hacking of the dlink DI614+ (pictures). Peter has succeeded in installing the booter, and Bitlov and me we've compiled the uclinux kernel. It boots and we have a shell access in telnet... I've still problems to get rid of the Fn key, to avoid pushing 4 keys to switch from console to console. I'm putting my config files here. Telephone number and address changed (16 Sep 2003 00:46) - If you want to contact me, my address and my fixed phone number are not valid anymore. You can reach me on my mobile, by email or on jabber. Due to changes in the MSN protocol (officialy from Microsoft for a security update, but in reality to have a monopoly on the interface), I cannot accept MSN friends anymore on jabber. Maybe you should explain to your friends that they should'nt use MSN. But M$ plays with network effects, and your friend will say: "I don't want to loose my other MSN friends...". I've many problems to convinve my sister and other end users to switch to jabber right now... Demonstration against software patents in Brussels (19 Jul 2003 17:26) - On Wednesday August 27th, there will be a demonstration at the European Parliament in Brussels against the proposed directive on software patents, organised by the FFII. As an additional (or alternative) action, people are encouraged to participate in an online demonstration, replacing the main page of their website with a text explaining the dangers of introducing unlimited patentability in Europe. The proposed directive would make it impossible to refuse patents on algorithms and business methods such as a recently uncovered European patent from Amazon on ordering a gift for and automatically delivering it to a third party, which is even broader than its infamous 1-Click patent. Backup your machines with rsync+hardlinks (19 Jul 2003 17:26) - There's an interesting python script here to use rsync and hardlinks to make incremental backups of your machines on a remote host (or on localhost). Very intereting to make backups over hard drives. EuroPython2003 pictures and BurningHell (30 Jun 2003 18:15) - I was organising the PyPy and Zope3 sprints. Some pictures here. Made of a Sardine Can (0,50EUR at Aldi) and of 2mm copper cable (ground yello and green), it's ver easy to do. So as to not have problems of rigidity with soldering, I've put a good quantity of hot glue over it. Approximately 10dB, need to make a link from SardineCan to SardineCan to see which distance I can reach at 11MB/sec. Pictures here. Indoor test between an AP and the antenna here. More details on ReseauCitoyen page. 8x2 WaveGuides in production soon (15 Jan 2003 14:21) - I've decided to produce CNC WaveGuides antennas (8x2 slots - 360deg - 15db) and to sell them online (Visa payment). Security Hole like the earth in Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.0 (08 Nov 2002 19:22) - This is why I don't use Microsoft products, because they don't care about security, and they release patches too late. Here's a simple html page that can format your floppy... or your hardrive if you want... EUCD conference (08 Nov 2002 19:22) - What's EUCD? What are the dangers for your freedom of speech? Great SVG conference in Zurich (27 May 2002 22:40) - I was surfing on the web to see where I can use SVG in my map projects. We can put an end to Word attachments (11 Jan 2002 23:44) - Don't you just hate receiving Word documents in email messages? Word attachments are annoying, but worse than that, they impede people from switching to free software. Maybe we can stop this practice with a simple collective effort. All we have to do is ask each person who sends us a Word file to reconsider that way of doing things. Next...(by RMS) Why free electronic vector-maps?
